Philips Announces the Momentum 558M1RY, 55" Monitor with [email protected] and Soundbar Designed for Next-Gen Consoles and Desktop PCs

With the PS5 and Xbox Series X launch happening at the end of this year, we are starting to notice more and more gaming monitors that are released with bigger panels.

The Momentum 558M1RY is designed with 4K UHD with 120Hz refresh rate support. This monitor should match the performance of the future gaming consoles that will be launched this 2020. Note that the monitor is only offering AMD FreeSync Premium Pro technology support, as it only works with AMD-based GPUs. Those of you with NVIDIA-based GPU desktop computers should wait until the monitor is launched in order to learn if NVIDIA G-Sync works with it.

The Philips Momentum 558M1RY gaming monitor offers the following specs: VA LCD 55-inch W-LED panel, 16:9 aspect ratio, 4ms GtG minimum response time, low input lag, Mega Infinity DCR Smart Contrast, 4000:1 contrast ratio, 3840 x 2160 4K UHD maximum screen resolution, 120hz variable refresh rate via DisplayPort input, HDMI port that only supports 4K UHD at 60hz and 2560 x 1440 at 120hz support. The DisplayPort is the only input that goes up to 120hz, and the monitor will most probably be shipped with DP cable. The monitor is also DisplayHDR 1000 certified.

The color gamuts offered by this Philips Momentum 558M1RY are as following: 95% DCI-P3 wide color gamut, 104% NTSC, and 125% sRGB input. The monitor is also offering Flicker-free, LowBlue Mode and tons of other smaller built-in features and functions that should help avoid eye fatigue when gaming for long periods of time.

When it comes to connectivity ports you will find one DisplayPort 1.4 input, three HDMI 2.0 inputs, one USB-B, four USB 3.2 ports with two of these supporting fast charge technology. NOTE: the DisplayPort input will only be supported by desktop computers, as the new Xbox and PlayStation consoles are only offering HDMI ports. You can enjoy 120hz refresh rate if you game at a 2560 x 1440 QHD resolution.

The monitor also comes with a built-in 40W soundbard designed by Bowers & Wilkins. The monitor will be released in the following weeks.
